Responsible Business

Taking responsibility for the environment and local community has been an important part of Rezidor's broader commitment to sustainable development for many years. In 2001, this commitment was fortified and placed within the scope of a programme called Responsible Business (RB). Each hotel has a unique RB Action Plan covering areas such as community outreach, environmental improvement, employee well-being and health and safety. To read more about the RB programme, please go to www.responsiblebusiness.rezidor.com.

Our hotels are engaged with both local charity groups and Rezidor's corporate international charity organisation, the World Childhood Foundation. The mission of Childhood is to defend the rights of the child and to promote better living conditions for vulnerable and exploited children at risk all over the world.

Here are some of the Responsible Business activities and achievements of this hotel:

Specific RB actions in Radisson Blu Seaside Hotel, Helsinki so far during year 2006:

  • the first hotel in Helsinki with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel -> this label was granted to us on 28th of June, 2006
  • The work continues and we are soon preparing the Ecolabel action plan for the coming year 2007.
  • This includes water consumption, energy consumption, waste, recycling, purchasing policy etc.
  • our owner Sokotel Ltd. was the first hotel company in Finland to equip all our hotels with life saving defibrillator in April 2006. This also included extensive first aid and defibrillator training (all dept. heads, supervisors, gm´s, night auditors)
  • total wellbeing and wellness of our staff: broader variety of excercising possibilities. Our company provides low cost opportunities for wellness by paying part of the cost.
  • a special work life balance/wellbeing program for the Night auditors -> together with our occupational health professionals and doctors.

Our plan for the rest of the year 2006:

  • enhancing the communication of the Swan Ecolabel both to our guests and stakeholders, as well as our staff. Our HEAM will include Eco - training in department meetings
  • better recycling: some of the rooms of the hotel are being renovated at the moment. During this project we will look through the possibilities to recycle old equipment and furniture (for example desks, closets, toilet seats, lamps). This way there will be much less waste from this renovating.
  • wellness possibilities: this continues by even broader possibilities and better communication
The biggest RB theme in this hotel is of course the Ecolabel. By receiving the certificate we just started the job. There are so many things that we can still do better.
